What We Believe

The following are the core beliefs of The Local Church based on the foundational truths taught in the bible. All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of these biblical doctrines.

God

We believe in the one living and true God, both holy and loving, eternal, unlimited in power, wisdom, and goodness, the creator and preserver of all things. The triune God eternally exists in three persons - the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Genesis 1:1; Matthew 3:16–17; Isaiah 40:28–29; John 1:1–2; Acts 17:24–25; Ephesians 2:18; Col. 1:16–17; 1 John 5:20.

Jesus Christ

We believe in Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary, fully God and fully man. He died on the cross and was buried, to be a sacrifice for our sin, and to reconcile us to God. Christ rose from the dead, and ascended into heaven, and there intercedes for us at the Father’s right hand until He returns to judge all humanity at the last day.

Matthew 1:20-23; Mark 10:45; Romans 5:10; 8:34; Hebrews 2:17; Acts 1:2-3; 1:9

The Bible

We believe that the Bible is the inspired and infallibly written Word of God, superior to all human authority, and believe that the Bible contains all things necessary to salvation. The Bible is the guide for how to live a life of loving obedience to God, made possible by the indwelling presence of His Holy Spirit.

Psalms 19:7; Matthew 22:37–40; Hebrews 4:12; 2 Timothy 3:15–17

Sin

We believe that through the disobedience of Adam and Eve sin entered the world and all creation suffered its consequences. The effects of sin include disruption of the relationship between God and humanity, deterioration
of the natural order of creation, and exploitation of persons. Each person is born with a bent toward sin, which causes an excessive focus toward self and independence from God, leading to deliberate acts against God’s design. The atoning work of Christ is the only remedy for sin.

Genesis 3; 6:5; John 16:8-9; Romans 3:23; Colossians 1:21-22

Salvation

We believe that salvation is the redemption of the whole person through the saving grace of Christ’s offering of Himself through His death on the cross. We believe that when one repents (confesses and turns away from) of sin and believes in the Lord Jesus Christ, that at the same moment that person is saved and adopted into the family of God.

Isaiah 52:13—53:12; Luke 24:46-47; Romans 3:28; Galatians 2:16; 4:4-7

The Church

We believe that the Church is the entire body of believers in Jesus Christ, who is the founder and only head of the Church. The church on earth is to carry out the Great Commission and live in obedience to all that Christ commands in order to bring glory to God.

Matthew 16:18; 28:19-20; Acts 2:41–47; Ephesians 1:22–23; 1 Corinthians 12:28;

The Christian Life

The essential accompaniment of a genuine saving relationship with Jesus Christ is a life of holiness and obedience, attained by believers as they yield to the Holy Spirit. As the believer submits more fully to the Lordship of Christ, the Holy Spirit releases the power that enables the believer to be pure in heart and totally dedicated to God. The work of the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer is both instantaneous and progressive, guiding in understanding and empowering for fruitful service.

Ezekiel 36:25–2; 1 Thessalonians 3:12-13; Titus 2:11-14

Christ's Return and Eternity

We believe in the literal return of Christ one day that will usher in the fullness of His Kingdom. We believe that the Scriptures clearly teach that there is a conscious personal existence after death. The final destiny of each person is determined by God’s grace and that person’s response. Either, heaven with its eternal glory and Christ’s presence for those who choose the salvation which God provides through Jesus Christ, or hell with its everlasting misery and separation from God for those who neglect this great salvation.

Daniel 12:2; John 14:2-3; Revelation 21:1—22:5
